Boral, a building materials company, has acquired Booyal Quarries in Queensland.
This strategic acquisition will provide supply assurance for Boral’s Wide Bay Burnett customers and integrated network, including asphalt and concrete factories located in Hervey Bay, Bandaberg, and Maryborough.
When Booyal’s skilled workers transfer to Boral, they will continue to work in Booyal.
Paul Noakes, Executive General Manager of Boral North Concrete and Quarry, stated that this acquisition will provide the company with a strong competitive quarry position to meet the infrastructure and development needs of rapidly growing regions.
He said, “The strategic acquisition of the Booyal quarry in Queensland will consolidate Boral’s ongoing commitment to providing services to the high growth wide bay area.”
The Booyal quarry will play a crucial role in providing quarry materials to Boral’s downstream asphalt and concrete businesses, thereby providing building materials for the region’s strong infrastructure and pipeline development.
“Importantly, we look forward to welcoming the employees of Booyal Quarries, who will continue to be part of the Boral team.”
The hard rock quarry, covering an area of 75 hectares, is located 60 kilometers southwest of Bandaberg in the Wide Bay Burnett area.
Knox stated that Booyal Quarries is a high-quality and mature enterprise in the region, with a large amount of quarry rock reserves, providing supply assurance for Boral’s local business.
“The hard stone quarry currently offers a full range of products, including aggregates and roadbeds certified for transportation and major roads,” he said.
The employees of Booyal Quarries were welcomed by the Boral team and held events on-site, including a company hosted barbecue breakfast and a visit from Noakes and Sam Toppenberg, the Executive General Manager of Human Resources and Culture at Boral.
